I still don’t really find it a trope I’m in love with or seek out, but I do think we’ll find some gems in the coming years!įrom Reneé Ahdieh’s The Beautiful coming out last year to Lobizona and other stories this year, we’re already not only seeing beloved tropes back, but also more diverse casts and authors. I was never hugely into the trend back in 2010, both because I was too young and because supernatural creatures weren’t really the trope of my choice, but now that I’m much older, it’s interesting to see it make a comeback. However, this post is not particularly focused on Twilight, but on vampires and werewolves and how they’re making a comeback in 2019, 2020, and beyond.

There is a movement to help the Quilete Tribe move to higher ground, which you can find at, and I strongly urge Twilight readers and non-readers alike to learn more about the Quilete Tribe and donate to their efforts. The use of the Quilete Tribe’s culture in such a way and without permission should not be condoned, especially as their community struggles with tsunami and flood waters near their facilities. I have never read Twilight and I don’t have any motivation to in the future, but I think this is something we must note when talking about Twilight‘s influence on YA. One of the most notable in young adult literature is the vampire, werewolf, and other paranormal creature trend, largely spurred by Twilight and other novels during that era.īefore I continue with this post, I’d first like to highlight how Stephenie Meyer’s use of the Quilete Tribe’s in Twilight was harmful as she adapted their legends to suit her narrative needs. Trends come and go for books, especially as some titles get popular and spur publishing to welcome more books with similar themes and tropes.
